Three Cheers for Village Attorney A. Thomas Levin

Mar 18, 2022

Brian Kelly, a resident of Rockville Centre, writes into the LI Herald praising A. Thomas Levin for his work at the February 22, 2022 hearing of the Town of Hempstead IDA regarding a building formerly owned by the Diocese of Rockville Centre.

The former Diocese building is proposed to be transformed into 60,000 square feet of office space by Philips International Holding Corp., a Great Neck-based real estate company. At the February 22, 2022 hearing, Mr. Levin addressed the issues within the proposal.

At the hearing, Mr. Levin explained that when the Diocese owned the building, it was tax-exempt due to being a nonprofit. With its sale a year ago, it should have been returned to the tax rolls, but wasn’t. In addition, Mr. Levin pointed out that the intended use of the building was unclear, and may not conform to zoning regulations.

With Mr. Levin’s input, this provides an opportunity for the IDA to obtain other information and review the proposal.

A. Thomas Levin is a Shareholder and General Counsel for Meyer Suozzi. He is Chair of the firm’s Local Government, Land Use and Environmental Compliance practice and the Professional Responsibility practice. A former President of the 70,000 member New York State Bar Association and the Nassau County Bar Association, he originated the firm’s Veterans’ Scholarship Program at Nassau Community College. Mr. Levin represents private and public sector clients in the fields of local government law, land use regulation, environmental review compliance, cable television franchising, municipal and commercial litigation and appeals, and matters relating to professional responsibility, ethics and disciplinary proceedings.
