Brooklyn, NY – May 29, 2024

In celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the second annual Hon. Randall T. Eng Award Program was held on May 29, 2024, named in his honor as the first Asian American to serve as presiding justice of the Appellate Division in New York.

This year there are two award recipients:

New York State Sen. Kevin Thomas, the first Indian-American elected to the NY Senate, representing the 6th District in Nassau County. As Chairman of the Consumer Protection Committee, Sen. Thomas has been the driving force behind the New York Privacy Act, making New York the national leader in consumer data protection.

Chanwoo Lee, Esq. has had a decades long solo practice representing indigent clients in criminal defense, and is deeply involved in professional and community-based not-for-profit organizations. In 2019, Chanwoo was appointed as a Commissioner to the New York State Board of Parole.

The Hon. Randall T. Eng Awards Program was co-sponsored by the following organizations:

  • The Asian American Bar Association of New York
