Favorable Arbitration Decision and Award for Meyer Suozzi Client Garden City Professional Fire Fighters

Arbitrator John M. Donoghue, Esq. recently issued the attached Decision and Award which finds that the Village of Garden City violated the collective bargaining agreement with the Garden City Professional Fire Fighters, Local 1588, IAFF, AFL-CIO by transferring bargaining unit work from the Professional Fire Fighters to the volunteer firefighters in violation of Local 1588’s contractual work jurisdiction over the operation of first line response fire apparatus, including the first line ladder truck.  Arbitrator Donoghue ordered the Village to “cease and desist” from transferring the work of the Professional Fire Fighters to volunteers and ruled that volunteers may continue to be called but only after paid firefighters respond with first line fire apparatus.   The Garden City Professional Fire Fighters were represented by Meyer Suozzi attorney Richard Corenthal.
