Free Seminar: Privacy Issues in the Wake of Virginia Tech

This program will explore the individual’s privacy rights under the federal FERPA and HIPAA statutes and how those rights apply to students in an educational setting. An in-depth review of both statutes will be discussed as well as the statutes application to students under 18 and over 18. Recent violent acts in schools will be discussed with a view toward how educational institutions are hampered and helped by these laws and what changes can be made.
