Re ‘Basement Blast, Thought to Be Accidental, Injures Dozens and Shatters Chelsea Block’ (news article, April 26):

Remember when workers went to work assuming they’d come home at day’s end? The tragic Chelsea explosion again highlights the devastation of workplace tragedy on employees, a neighborhood, a city.

In a changed world, workplace safety isn’t guaranteed, even for a day. Employers can’t control acts of international terrorism, but must create safe work environments against reasonably anticipated conditions. OSHA, with exclusive jurisdiction over workplace safety, must place its full commitment and resources behind mandatory regulation, strong oversight, enforcement and inspection.
