Robert Marinovic

Robert Marinovic was named a Member of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C. in March 2009. Previously he held the position of Associate in the Labor practice at the firm. His practice principally involves litigation before federal and state courts and administrative agencies involving labor, employment, and employee benefit matters. Mr. Marinovic has been a key attorney in a number of matters and successfully litigated on behalf of labor unions and individual employees.

Notable experience includes:

An action brought by an environmental contractor in United States District Court against a labor union, seeking over $150,000 in damages. Mr. Marinovic successfully defeated the company’s Labor Management Relations Act claim based on alleged secondary activity, and no damages were awarded.
A class action in Kings County, New York against an employer who took improper wage deductions from day laborers’ earnings. The company charged its workers an average of $1.50 to withdraw their daily pay from the company’s cash dispensing machines. Mr. Marinovic successfully prevented a dismissal of the case.
An action against the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, which refused to furnish public records to a union under the Freedom of Information Law. Mr. Marinovic successfully obtained a court order directing the agency to comply with the union’s information requests.
An action in United States District Court against a public university which illegally interfered with the rights of its cleaning contractor’s employees to engage in union activity. Mr. Marinovic successfully obtained an injunction ordering the university to cease and desist its unlawful conduct.

Prior to joining Meyer, Suozzi, Mr. Marinovic was a law clerk at the union-side labor firm of Reden & O’Donnell, LLP from 1998 until 1999, and a law clerk for the National Labor Relations Board in 1997. From 1993 to 1996, Mr. Marinovic was employed by Local 802, Associated Musicians of Greater New York. He was responsible for administering and enforcing a collective bargaining agreement covering hundreds of musicians in the single-engagement, “club date” field of the music industry.

Mr. Marinovic was awarded a three-year graduate scholarship by Local 32B-J, Service Employees International Union.
