Patricia McConnell is a Member of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C., where she practices in the firms Labor and Employee Benefits group located in New York, NY. Pat concentrates her practice in the employee benefits area, which encompasses a wide range of employee benefits law issues, from the establishment, design and IRS qualification of pension and welfare plans to the administration and termination of such plans. She has considerable experience with multiemployer and single employer pension and welfare plans in both the private and public sectors. As counsel to these funds, Pat advises plan administrators and trustees on legal compliance, fund administration, investment matters and fiduciary responsibility. She also handles participant benefit claims, appeals and litigation, both on behalf of individuals claiming benefits due them and defending plans against such claims. Pat works with the firm’s corporate and employment practice groups regarding the employee benefits aspects of purchases and sales of businesses, executive and deferred compensation, and compliance with COBRA, FMLA, the Affordable Care Act and other laws.
For her entire career, Pat has represented local and international labor organizations on the full range of labor and employment matters. Her labor practice includes litigation, arbitration, collective bargaining, internal union governance and elections, and proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board and other federal and state administrative agencies. Before joining the firm, Pat was a partner of Vladeck, Waldman, Elias and Engelhard, P.C. She is a member of the AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee and has served on its Board. She has taught at the Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations and has made presentations on labor law matters at national conferences of labor and employment law practitioners. Pat is rated “AV Preeminent” by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest level of professional excellence, and she was recognized by L.I. Pulse Magazine in 2010 and 2011 as one of the region’s “Top Legal Eagles”.
