Richard S. Corenthal

Richard S. Corenthal is a Member of the firm at Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C. From 1999 until 2001, he was Of Counsel to the firm. He is a member of the Labor and Employment Law groups. Mr. Corenthal handles a wide range of areas involving labor and employment matters. He represents public-sector and private-sector labor unions in all types of disputes, and has represented multi-employer/union benefit funds. Mr. Corenthal has litigated numerous labor-related claims in federal and state courts and before various administrative agencies including the National Labor Relations Board and the Public Employment Relations Board. Mr. Corenthal has numerous legal achievements and favorable court decisions on behalf of labor unions and individual employees.

As a member of the firm’s employment group, Mr. Corenthal provides employment advice to clients regarding employment contracts and separation agreements. He has negotiated separation agreements for clients in a wide range of fields, including finance, publishing and advertising. He has also litigated numerous employment-related claims, including sexual harassment, age, race, national origin, disability, minimum labor standards, overtime, breach of contract and whistleblower claims. Mr. Corenthal also represents clients with employment-related claims in the finance industry at arbitration and mediation proceedings, including arbitration claims before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. 

Mr. Corenthal is a former Assistant Attorney General and Deputy Chief of the Labor Bureau under New York State Attorney General Robert Abrams. He has taught Public Sector and Private Sector Labor Law as an Instructor at the Cornell University School of Industrial Labor Relations. He has also been an Adjunct Professor teaching Occupational Health Law at Pace University School of Law and Occupational Health Law at Hunter College, School of Health Sciences.  Additionally, Mr. Corenthal was a Special Assistant to the New York State Assembly from 1996 until 1998.  Mr. Corenthal is a member of the Board of Directors of Tuesday’s Children.

Mr. Corenthal has authored numerous articles and is a frequent lecturer on labor and employment issues. Recently, he has presented at the New York State Bar Association, the Practicing Law Institute, the National Safety Council, the City of New York, District Council 37, AFSCME, New York State AFL-CIO, New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health, New York City Central Labor Council, Cornell University School of Industrial Labor Relations, National Employment Lawyers Association (New York Chapter), the American Conference Institute, NYC LERA and  Cardozo School of Law.

Mr. Corenthal is rated “AV Preeminent” by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest level of professional excellence, and he was recognized by Long Island Pulse Magazine in 2010 and 2011 as one of the region's "Top Legal Eagles".
