Sylvan Z. Garfunkel, an Associate of the Corporate Law practice of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C., joined the firm in April 2008. Mr. Garfunkel’s practice concentrates on private company mergers and acquisitions and general corporate representation for U.S.-based regional and national companies as well as international companies. He routinely counsels companies with respect to asset and stock purchase transactions, including drafting of letters of intent, supervision of due diligence, drafting, negotiating, reviewing and analyzing stock purchase agreements, asset purchase agreements, software licensing agreements, employment and consulting agreements, management services agreements, non-competition agreements and transition services agreements. In addition, Mr. Garfunkel regularly advises clients on a variety of commercial issues including formation and structuring of entities, shareholder, operating and partnership agreements, employment arrangements and general corporate matters.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Garfunkel was an associate at the Law Office of Alan J. Garfunkel LLC in New York City. There, he was involved in a number of corporate transactions and provided general corporate representation to private companies, ranging from start-ups to large national concerns. He also handled mergers and acquisitions, represented clients in connection with private equity investments, and prepared apparel, footwear and timepiece licensing and distribution agreements. Prior to joining the NYC law firm, Mr. Garfunkel was a law clerk at Abraham, Lerner & Arnold, LLP.
Education
Mr. Garfunkel received his law degree in 2005 from Brooklyn Law School. He graduated from Rutgers University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Finance. During law school, Mr. Garfunkel earned the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Fundamentals of Legal Drafting.

Community Involvement
Mr. Garfunkel is co-founder of the Taglit-Birthright Israel Young philanthropist Committee. In March, 2007, he led a community service trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to assist the Jewish community struggling to recover from the country's economic crisis of the early 2000s.
