Law Practice

Abraham B. Krieger is a senior member in the Commercial Real Estate, and the Corporate Finance Law practices of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C. located in Garden City, Long Island, N.Y.  Mr. Krieger joined the firm in 2007 focusing his broadly-based practice on representing businesses and individuals in commercial and residential real estate lending, sale, and lease transactions and real estate, lease and commercial litigation. An integral portion of his practice includes representing commercial lenders and borrowers on real estate fiduciary transactions and title insurance companies on defending fee title and mortgage validity claims.

 

Professional Profile

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Krieger was in private practice since 1976. From 1995 until 2002, Mr. Krieger was senior partner in a Great Neck-based law firm and also a partner in a New York City firm of in which he was a principal partner from 1989-1993. Mr. Krieger served as General Counsel to Safeco Title Insurance Company of New York from 1985-1988 and Assistant Adjunct Professor, Department of Law at Baruch College, City University of New York from 1985-1990.

 

Professional Affiliations

Mr. Krieger is a member of the New York State and Nassau County Bar Associations. He is currently serving on the Second Judicial Dept.  Grievance Committee for the 2012-2016 term.  He served as Dean of the Nassau County Bar Association Academy of Law (2007-2008), co-chaired the Sub-Prime Subcommittee of the Nassau Bar Real Property Committee, is a member of the Real Property Committee (2003-2012), and the Commercial Litigation Committee (2000-2007).  He is a member of the NYS Bar Real Property Law Committee serving on its Executive Board, the Real Property Task Force on Fraudulent Practices and the Commercial Leasing Subcommittee. He served as chair of the NCBA’s Real Property Committee (2003-2004), the Advisory Task Force on Escrows, Moot Court program Judge (2005-2006),  NCBA  Board of Directors (2002-2005), Chairman of the NCBA By-Laws Revision Committee (2001-2002), and New Member Regional Liaison (1999-2003). He served on the NYS Conference of Bar Leaders, Executive Council representing 10th Judicial District (1999-2002), as Secretary to the Network of Bar Leaders (1999-2000), as a member of the NCBA’s Commercial Litigation Committee (2000-2007), and as a member of the Real Property Committee (2003-2011).  Mr. Krieger served as President (1997-1999), Chairman (2000-2001), and on the Board of Directors (2000-2006) of the Great Neck Lawyer’s Association.  He was a member of the Brehon Law Society (1999-2002), First American Title Insurance Company, Nassau County Advisory Board (2004-2006), and the Executive Board of the American Inns of Court, Theodore Roosevelt Chapter, (2004-2006). Mr. Krieger participates in the NCBA Of Counsel Mentor Program and is a member of the Nassau County District Court Arbitration Panel since 1998.  He is also an active member of the Historical Society of the Courts of the State of New York.

 

Recognition

Among his numerous achievements, Mr. Krieger currently serves on the NYSBA Real Property Law Executive Committee representing the 10th Judicial District, the Executive Committee on Professional Conduct, and has served on the Sub-Committee on Due Diligence Lease Checklists. He is an Expert Witness and Mediator in various real estate litigations by court appointment of the U.S. Federal Court, NYS Supreme and Civil/District Courts. He has served both as a Receiver  and counsel to Receiver on major Nassau, Suffolk and Queens County foreclosures. He received the Nassau Suffolk Law Services Pro Bono Attorney of the Month (January 2000), and Nassau County Bar Association’s Pro Bono Award, Volunteers Lawyers Project (2001). In 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, Mr. Krieger was recognized in the Long Island Business News Who's Who in Commercial Real Estate Law, and in LIBN's Ones to Watch in Commercial Real Estate Law in 2008. He is rated "AV Preeminent" by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest level in professional excellence, and recognized by L.I. Pulse Magazine in 2010 and 2011 as one of the region's "Top Legal Eagles".

 

Presentations & Publications

In 2010, Mr. Krieger, presented on "Purchases and Sales of Homes: Contract Drafting & Negotiation" on behalf of the New York State Bar Association. He has also presented at the Nassau County Bar Association on "Dean's Hour Fine Tuning the Commercial Lease Limited Guaranty," Pre contract Due Diligence" "Commercial Lease Transactions," "Real Estate Transactions," “Bridge the Gap / MCLE programs,” “The Revised Residential Contract of Sale," “Basic Residential Real Estate Transactions,” “Primer on Commercial Leases,” “Negotiating the Commercial Lease & Post Signing," Fundamentals of Real Estate Practice," and “Commercial Lease Litigation.”  In February, 2012 he is presenting a program on “Commercial Leasing Primer, Practice & Pitfalls.” He has served on the NYS Conference of Bar Leaders as Panel Chairman on “Enhancing Professionalism and Improving Public Perception of Small Bar Associations,” the Nassau County Academy of Law, Great Neck Chamber of Commerce, Inns of Court and the Advisory Board of First American Title Insurance Company. 

 
Mr. Krieger is a current Contributing Editor of the NYSBA publication on Commercial Leasing, authoring the chapter on the ‘Form Rider.’ He has written numerous legal and scholarly articles throughout his career which include: “Commercial Lease Due Diligence,” The Nassau Lawyer (12/05), “Property Conditions Disclosure Statement, Another Interpretation,” The Nassau Lawyer (4/02); New York Law Journal (6/27/02); Real Property Law Journal, NYSBA, (Summer, 2002), “Real Estate Transaction,” "The Giacalone Decision, Caveat Advocatus," New York Law Journal,  November, 1980, (a threshold decision affirmed by Appellate Division and cited in Insurance Law on municipal utility charges as liens against real property; served as lead counsel on the litigation). "The Holocaust as Catalyst for International Justice," and ILSA Journal of Int'l & Comparative Law, October, 2002, and an article on “Wrongful Referral” which appearing in the New York Law Journal and New York State Bar Association Real Property Law Journal.  He has also lectured on “Updates on RPL and RPAPL.”  He is currently scheduled to speak on “Merging Small Practices into Large Ones” before the Nassau County Bar Association and in May, 2011 helped coordinate the Holocaust Memorial Program presented by the Nassau County Court System.  He is currently working on an article on “Single Purpose Entites.”

Mr. Krieger has been at the forefront of many legal proceedings including Kay-Pine Enterprises v. 80 Pine LLC, 1/17/06, New York County Supreme Court, decision on consolidation of a Civil Court commercial Summary Proceeding with the Supreme Court action. Walsam v. Andy’s Fur, New York County Civil Court, 2005 Statute of Frauds, lease interpretation issues; enforceability of So-Ordered Stipulation; Subject Matter jurisdiction.  Liberty Theaters v. Local 91 Realty, New York County Supreme Court, 3/10/04, Right of First Refusal, Break-up fees and conspiracy issues in commercial real estate transaction.  Higgins et al v. Jackson Campbell, Nassau County Supreme Court, 2002, CPLR 1006 Stakeholder action involving forum non conveniens and federal depository issues.  Emigrant Mortgage Co., Inc. v. Anthony J. Corcione and Jane Corcione, Suffolk County Supreme Court, Retained as Of Counsel to represent Emigrant Mortgage Co., Inc. on vacating lower court's adverse decision. LZG Realty LLC and Tissa Funding, et al. v. Mr. Krieger has argued numerous cases before the First and Second Dept. Appellate Divisions.

Community Involvement

Mr. Krieger served for many years on Great Neck Chambers of Commerce Executive Board. He is deeply committed to his community and beyond. Since 1978, he has served as Counsel to the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors. He also served for 10 years on the Advisory Committee of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

 

In the summer of 2002, he served at the University of Berlin, Germany on the Wannsee Conference Advisory Committee on The Corruption of the Rule of Law in Germany.  

 

In November of 2008, he presented at the Nassau County Bar Association a program to the Yashar, Attorneys’ and Judges’ Chapter of Hadassah of Nassau County. His program, titled, “Stories of Hope and Survival as Told By a Child of Survivors,” recounting his personal and professional perspectives.

 

In January of 2009, Mr. Krieger traveled to Jerusalem to participate in the 13th Plenary of the World Jewish Congress Assembly (WJC).  While there, Mr. Krieger joined 400 affiliated international Jewish delegates representing Jewish communities in over 80 countries and organizations. 

 

In March 2009, Mr. Krieger along with other members of the WJC, met in New York with the German Ambassador to the United Nations to discuss human rights issues.

Mr. Krieger is admitted to practice law in New York State and before the United States District Court, Eastern & Southern Districts of New York, the United States Supreme Court and the United States Tax Court.
