Jil Mazer-Marino

Law Practice
Jil Mazer-Marino was named a Member of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C. in 2011 having joined the firm as Of Counsel to the firm’s Bankruptcy & Business Reorganization and Corporate Finance law practice located in Garden City, Long Island, N.Y. in 2008.  Ms. Mazer-Marino practices in the area of bankruptcy and creditors’ rights and has extensive experience representing debtors, creditors’ committees, and secured and unsecured creditors in large and complex chapter 11 bankruptcy cases. She has represented chapter 7, and chapter 11 trustees, chapter 11 debtors in possession, and plan administrators in all aspects of bankruptcy case administration.  Ms. Mazer-Marino represents banks, indenture trustees, factors and other lenders in connection with debtor in possession financing, out of court debt restructuring, and debt collection.  Ms. Mazer-Marino also serves as a chapter 7 panel trustee in the Southern District of New York.

Ms. Mazer-Marino has been representing businesses in chapter 11 reorganizations and liquidations for over 15 years.  Her most recent representations of chapter 11 debtors include representing a 60 store chain of retail craft stores and an 80 store chain of off-price retail stores.  As special counsel for the chapter 7 trustee of a national cable installation company, Ms. Mazer-Marino, prosecuted, litigated and settled over 100 actions commenced to recover preferential transfers in excess of $6 million.  Similarly, as counsel to the plan administrator for an international audio equipment manufacturer, Ms. Mazer-Marino prosecuted over 80 actions to recover preferential and fraudulent transfers.  Ms. Mazer-Marino has represented a wide variety of creditors including manufacturers, utilities, importers, labor unions and landlords, in some of today’s largest chapter 11 cases, including General Motors, Chrysler, Blockbuster, Delphi, Refco, Adelphia Communications, and Fortunoff’s.  In addition, Ms. Mazer-Marino has experience representing creditors’ committee’s, including most recently, representing the creditors’ committee for a chapter 11 bio-diesel operator.

Prior Experience
Prior to joining Meyer, Suozzi, Ms. Mazer-Marino was a partner at the bankruptcy boutique firm of Rosen Slome Marder, LLP.  From 1990 through 1991, Ms. Mazer-Marino served as a law clerk to Hon. Conrad B. Duberstein, former Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of New York, after which she practiced in the business reorganization and restructuring department of Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP in New York City.

Professional Affiliations
Ms. Mazer-Marino is the former President of the New York Institute of Credit, Women’s Division.  She has lectured on creditors’ rights and bankruptcy topics for the Practicing Law Institute, the Association of Corporate Counsel, Greater New York Chapter, the Long Island Business Resource Association and the New York Institute of Credit.

Education
Ms. Mazer-Marino is a 1986 magna cum laude graduate of State University of New York at Albany and a 1990 cum laude graduate of the St. John’s University School of Law where she was a Member of the Law Review.

Ms. Mazer-Marino is admitted to practice law in New York State and before the United States District Court, Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
