Joni H. Kletter, of Park Slope, and an associate at Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, was honored by Touro Law Center’s Public Interest Law Fellowship Program for her commitment to providing pro bono legal counsel.
Kletter spent over 200 pro-bono hours representing and prosecuting a young woman’s claims for sexual harassment and retaliation suffered while working as a waitress at a Long Island restaurant. Kletter was successful in defeating defendants’ motions to dismiss the case, and she ultimately negotiated a favorable settlement on behalf of the client.
Kletter joined Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C. on Feb. 1, 2007, as an associate of the Labor and Employment Law practice. She helps litigate numerous employment-related claims and provides employment advice to employees, executives, professionals and companies.
Kletter has experience in cases involving discrimination, harassment, separation agreements, employment contracts, restrictive covenants and employee benefits.
Before joining the firm, Kletter was a federal law clerk to U.S. District Judge Sandra J. Feuerstein and prior to that, U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert M. Levy in the Eastern District of New York.
During law school, Kletter worked as a legal intern at the New York State Attorney General’s Office, Civil Rights Bureau, where she worked on housing and employment discrimination under both federal and state law.
Kletter graduated from Yale University in 2000 and received her J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, cum laude, in 2004.
