Two of the key negotiators in settling the pension and benefit issues in the Detroit Bankruptcy will discuss this fascinating and far reaching case. They will cover the threshold matter, in which the bankruptcy judge ruled that state laws preserving public pensions are not inviolable, so those benefits can be adjusted in bankruptcy court under Chapter 9. They will describe the pension and retiree health settlements that were reached between the parties, as well as the objections to the deal from the other creditors. It promises to be a very interesting and dynamic exchange by two excellent pension and benefit specialists.
