Andrew Turro Participates in the University of Arizona’s Race Track Industry Program’s Guest Speaker Series

Andrew J. Turro, a Member of Meyer Suozzi’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Department and of the firm’s Employment Law practice will participate in the University of Arizona’s Race Track Industry Program’s Guest Speaker Series. He will be lecturing on February 19, 2013 at the University on various Racing Law issues including (1) the constitutional and other legal issues raised race track exemptions and exclusions of duly licensed ; (2) constitutional considerations implicated by various out-of competition regulations being promulgated in racing jurisdictions throughout the country, including Fourth Amendment issues and delegation of powers considerations; (3) Section 1983 “state-action” issues involving state-supervised gambling casinos and/or video lottery games at privately owned racetracks; (4) the recognition by the US Supreme Court of state-issued horse owner and trainer licenses as a protected property interests under the due process clause; (5) the legality of state gaming agencies’ sanctioning individuals neither licensed by or participating in conduct within the general jurisdiction of such agencies; and (6) recent new trends used by agencies to prosecute alleged violations of regulations prohibiting the administration of certain drugs and/or substances to horses.
